LIVING THE GREEN DREAM

The pioneering Greenhouse project in Leeds has set a national standard for sustainable development.

Greenhouse will be unique, not only in its groundbreaking ideas but in the way it would ensure sustainable living by changing residents’ behavioural patterns, says director of Citu.

Greenhouse involves the part-refurbishment and part-new-build of a redundant art-deco hostel in South Leeds. This distinctive development comprises 172 one, two and three-bedroom apartments plus high-specification creative work space.

At the heart of our values lies a desire to regenerate and enhance places using high quality distinctive architecture and interior design.

When planning the Greenhouse we thought about how it would fit in with existing architecture; how it will impact on the local economy; and how it could enhance the lifestyles of existing residents.

Citu has also collaborated with Naughtone, another local company, on the interiors of the show flats. The environmentally conscious team has sourced all the materials from within a 20-mile radius of the Greenhouse. Eighty percent of these products are from Naughtone, which is less than 10 miles from the site. These include sustainable bamboo flooring and Portion sofas, made from100 per cent wool on solid Forest Stewardship Council-certified timber frames.Naughtone is also offering an interior package for buyers who would like to fit out their Greenhouse apartments in the same style as the show flats.
